Forsaken Home by A. America

In Forsaken Home, Morgan, his friends, and his family must survive in an environment where there's no power, no stores with food, water, and things to pleasure their wants and needs. They had to abandon their homes because people are trying to get food and water to survive, and they will kill anything that is in their way of finding and getting that food and water. They retreated to a nearby camp ground and live in cabins in a forest next to a lake. This lake is full of fish and the forest is full of fresh meat. The environment they live in is a tremendous area to live in because of the abundant supply of food and water. They must use their vision to keep watch and be safe of the raiders that steal and raid everyone. Morgan has always been an outdoors kind of guy so this type of situation he got himself into wasn't the worst it can be. Because of him, his group is able to get meat from deer and other animals that inhabit the forest because of his skills he learned prior to the major change in the society. I think that the next thing will happen is that Morgan and his group will attack the raiders before they attack him because they aren't going to sit around and wait to be attacked for the second time, they're going to do the attack this time.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

I have finished a book named Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan, Percy is living in the same world as the world that we live in except that there are monsters, several gods, demigods, monsters and etc. the story happens in the U.S. so it's the same country plus some monsters. Half bloods or demi-gods can see other monsters and some of them can smell monsters but regular people are not able to do this so it looks like the same world as ours to most of the peoples but it looks different to  half bloods and monsters, for example Tyson who is Percy's friend/step brother is a cyclops so he has a powerful smelling sense, in the story in Luke's ship he smelled monsters and warned Percy  and Annabeth and he saved their lives with the help of his nose.
Percy who is the main character is just the same as average level people but as a low level student because of his dyslexia, I think he does not fit so well as a regular person but he is well described as brave and adventure loving guy that is son of Poseidon.
I enjoyed reading this book and I would probably buy the next part of the sequel that it's name is The Titans Curse and I think they will have a problem with Kronos who is the Titan God but as always percy will win.

Best of Soviet SF: World Soul

This story takes place in the distant future of Russia. In Moscow, scientists are trying to find out what happened when a worldwide phenomenon took place.
The environment is almost diesel punk, but it has a futuristic vibe. There are flying cars and robots, but there are still coal powered, industrial factories. The phenomenon that took place was like the plot for a horror movie. On the night of August 9, people had nightmares that actually happened in real life. Also, people began to obtain entirely different personalities. One Russian woman turned into a French woman that lives in Paris. Many scientists there believe that it was a virus that originated in the Pacific Ocean caused it. An American scientist believed that aliens had caused it.
This book is very interesting and I suggest that you read it.

Transformers

I am reading the book Transformers Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron. The book is set on a futuristic planet called Cybertron. Cybertron is made out of only hard cold metal and there is no water. The Transformers use this resource called energon as there life source. They don't need food either because the energon works as there water and food. There is a war going on, on Cybertron so the energon supplies are harshly depleted causing the transformers to die due to the lack of energon. During the war you can smell the electrical wiring and see the smoke bellowing from the dying transformers, while the yellow and white sparks fly when the transformers gets hit with an ion blast. Optimus prime is the leader of the autobots they are the good transformers. Optimus prime is ready to go into battle with the Decepticons they are lead by Megatron. During the first battle scene Optimus prime is battling the Decepticons to keep the m from converting the energon into dark energon and having the auto bot get corrupted and turn into decepticons and have decepticons rule the world. I predict that the autobots will win the war and Optimus prime and the rest of the autobots will live in peace.

FanGirl

My new favorite book is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Words can not describe how much I loved it. The amount of happiness that filled my body while reading this book was amazing. The author made me completely fall in love with Levi, her roomates ex boy friend. He brought her coffee after work and was a great friend and boyfriend to Cath.
Cath and her sister Wren were both attending the same college. They were always with each other all the time for their whole life. They are so used to being with each other. But when college came around, the story wasn't the same. Wren was basically a party animal. She was wild. She acted as if partying was more important than work.

My favorite part of the book that especially made me fall in love with it was when Cath had emergency dance parties. That made me so happy and it related to me because doesn't everyone have their own secret jam out session in their room?!  Cath is my favorite character because she is a role model to me even though she is a fictional character. She always rose above things and knew what to do. She was the "kind of girl who fantasizes about being trapped in a library overnight."
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is my new favorite book. I could read it everyday for 12 hours and never get sick of it. I really recommend this book to anyone who is over the age of 13 because it is such a great book and portrays a great image in my head.

Rangers Apprentice

In Rangers Apprentice, they are at a castle in the medieval time period. Will Treaty and his apprentice Maddie, the king and queens' daughter,  are at the royal castle to negotiate for Maddie to become a Ranger. The cold hard stone castle protects them from being attacked by an outside force. Inside the castle the sounds of troops yelling orders for practice at the training field can be heard and the smell of food from the dining hall seeps through the air of the castle. In this scene they are negotiating for Maddie to become a ranger with a high rank and a lot of power. This is unusual because only men are trained and Maddie is a spoiled brat that doesn't do well in the home because she is used to servants taking care of her. She doesn't know how to cook, tie up the horses or even make a bed.  She has to run 8 miles every day for training and she can run and walk but when they get back to the cabin she starts to complain about not being a princess. She was upset and mad because her own parents disowned her as a princess! During her training she passed and became a full ranger and went on to train others in the same way that Will trained her.

I predict that Will and Maddie will have to go out on a mission to help an ally in a war because this is a reoccurring theme in this series.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - Setting

The book, The Fault in Our Stars, takes place in Indiana in the United States.  This book is set in the present day.  The main character is Hazel Lancaster, and she has thyroid cancer with mets in her lungs.  This book is realistic fiction, so Hazel just lives in our regular world.  Obviously, she has many struggles living with cancer.  For example, she has been through many surgeries and operations and needs to carry around an oxygen tank in order to breathe.  She is also just another teenage girl living a normal life, except for the fact that she does not attend school anymore because of her cancer.  Hazel has a crush on a boy named Augustus Waters, and Augustus likes her too.  Augustus is a cancer survivor and his leg was amputated because of his cancer.  They both have normal families and a great friendship with each other.

Hazel is just one of the millions of people who have cancer in this world.  Her story is special because she is able to find love despite this major setback in her life.  At one point in the story, Hazel says that she wants to stay away from people except for her parents.  This is because she feels like a "grenade".  Hazel says to her parents, "I'm a grenade and at some point I'm going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties, okay?"  This means Hazel wants to stay away from other people because when she dies, she doesn't want to hurt anyone, like Augustus.  Then Hazel says, "I just want to stay away from people and read books and think and be with you guys because there's nothing I can do about hurting you; you're too invested, so just please let me do that, okay?  I'm not depressed.  I don't need to get out more.  And I can't be a regular teenager, because I'm a grenade."  I think Hazel can be a regular teenager in the world, she just doesn't believe that she can because of her awful disease.  At this point, Hazel has mixed feelings about Augustus.  She likes him, but at the same time, after Augustus touched her face in a caring way, she thinks, "But the actual touch, the realized touch... it was all wrong".  This is probably because she really does like Augustus, but when she dies, she doesn't want him to be hurt.  It is almost like she feels as if she doesn't belong in this world, but she has a lot to live for.

Next in the story, I think that Hazel will end up going to Amsterdam with Augustus (their plan is to go see the author of Hazel's favorite book), and they will fall in love.  I can predict that this will happen because I know deep down inside, Hazel really likes Augustus.  She needs someone like Augustus in her life to bring her happiness.  They are perfect for each other because they both know what it feels like to have cancer and how you need someone there for you in your life in a sad time like this.

Taken by Erin Bowman

Taken begins in a city named Claysoot, Gray's primary home. As he jumps the wall surrounding the city with Emma, his girlfriend, they are taken to a new town and two more rebel complexes. Claysoot is, for the most part, a peaceful town besides the fact every young boy is taken on their eighteenth birthday. It has many buildings and homes along with the giant wall that protects and isolates Claysoot from the rest of the unknown world. The town was said to be far away from Clatysoot and is explained to be a very modern with more violence than usual, it is very dark for most of the day and has spooky nights full of creepy and mysterious noises, making it hard to rest at night.
As Gray and Emma move from the mysterious town to the rebel complexes, they find out crucial information about the entire world. They discover four more cities like his own, Claysoot. The four more citites are just as long and just as wide with the same concept as Claysoot, no men over the age of eighteen. He finds out that their city is just an experiment, an experiment for war. He discovers that the five cities are all experiments to breed people in extreme environments with no men to help out, in order to create soldiers for a civil war. At the scetchy rebel complexes, Gray and Emma become rebels of the experiment and almost begin a protest/revolt against it.
If the war continues, it is being said that the US  might split in half because of all of the destruction and war conflicts going on. I hope Gray and Emma can make it out and back home to Claysoot or even make it to somewhere safe before the war expands to close to them and they are possibly caught in action. Will Gray, being a rebel of the experiment, be taken to become a soldier for war, or will he make it through with Emma?

If I Stay

If I Stay takes place in a hospital in Portland and also in little glimpses of Mia's past. The scene of the car crash takes place on a snowy, winter's day. Mia's outer-body experience lasted about a day until she finally decided whether she was going to stay or go. Mia had gotten familiar with her surroundings and the people who were helping her and taking care of her within the matter of hours. She went back and forth from being with her body to being with her family and friends trying to hear some sort of news. She had visitors and she heard everything that they had said to her. At one point, she didn't know what to do and didn't want to have to make this decision. "I don't care anymore. I'm tired of this all and it will be over soon" This quote shows how Mia was getting frustrated and stressed over the whole thing and that she knew that she wanted to and was going to decide soon. This quote also shows how Mia was weakening...saying that she's tired of everything that's happened, implying that she wants to be done with the whole situation. It makes you think that she's going to end it all, join her immediate family somewhere far beyond the earth. She misleads you. I think the fact that Adam came and talked to her and practically begged her to stay because she's his everything; the fact that Kim came and told Mia that she still had family here, and that she'll miss her too much if Mia leaves; and the fact that her grandfather said that he wanted her to stay but it was okay if she left, that he understood if she did, helped her decide to stay. But I think she stayed not only because Adam, Kim, her grandparents, and everyone else wanted her to stay...I think she stayed because she knew that her parents would want her to. They'd want her to grow up and follow her dreams. They'd want her go to Julliard and make it big. And she wanted to make them proud. I think all of this is why she stayed.

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner takes place in the "Glade" were all the boys live surrounded by a seemingly escapeless maze. Inside the maze lurks the Grievers, vicious half monster half machine creatures, who come out every night and sometimes during the day in the maze. The runners go out every day risking their lives trying to find a way out. Throughout the book Thomas, the main character, feels drawn to the task of the runners feeling that it is his duty to be a runner. Time passes by as Thomas learns the ropes of the Glade but then a strange event happens. A girl shows up in the box. The first girl ever in the Glade, Teresa, and came with a note that reads. That she and the supplies that came with her are the last they are going to receive.

After proving himself by going into the maze to save Alby, the leader of the boys, and Minho, the keeper of the runners, Thomas earns himself a spot as a runner and goes out with Minho every day risking his life. The two of them try very hard everyday until suddenly one day they see a Griever and follow it. The Griever oddly leads them to the Cliff, a steep drop-off leading to an almost endless fall and eventually death, and then without warning jumps off the Cliff. Minho and Thomas rush to the Cliff and discover somehow the Griever has disappeared. After throwing rocks of the Cliff they figure out there is a portal at the end of the Cliff.

Time passes and there is seemingly no way out of the maze still. They try using the maze patterns and create several words out of them but have no idea what they are for. Then one morning the Gladers wake up and the sun never came up and the doors to the maze aren't closing meaning they can be attacked at any moment by the Grievers. Scared and confused the Gladers devise a plan to all pack up in the Homestead like sitting ducks. Every night as if it is a test a Griever comes every night and takes one of the boys to meet there painful fearsome death. Thomas decides that he cant sit any longer and he decides to get stung by a Griever to go through the changing where many go through a painful process that unveils some elements and clues to there past.

The painful process of the Changing unveils a way out for Thomas and the Gladers to go through the "Griever Hole" at the Cliff and shut down the maze. When they leave the Glade to do this they are met with a wall of Grievers protecting the "Griever Hole". The Gladers powerfully and bravely fight through the wall so that Thomas, Teresa, and Chuck, Thomas best friend, can make it into the hole. After suffering heavy loses of Gladers they defeat the Grievers and shut down the maze. Also they find a door seemingly leading to what is beyond the life of the maze a world the Gladers do not remember but there is one thing on there mind. Punish the Creators.

Strombreaker

As Alex Rider finds out his uncle was a secret agent, his company that his uncle had worked for wants Alex to become agent. Alex excepts the offer and starts to train. The setting of the book is taking place in the training center, which is also known as the office. Before Alex is sent off on his mission, most of the book has been in one place which is the office. The book is in the season of fall. I think that the book is taking place in fall because, the book says how Alex leaves the river and tells how he rides his bike home from school. Showing that it is still warm enough to go the river, but still shows how Alex leaves school. I feel that Alex is a little out of his comfort zone and not used to his new surrodings and enviroment. The book says" I was told that you were'nt to have weapons. You're to young." The scene show hows Alex is out of the his comfort zone by people thinking that a 14 year old boy could be using weapons when he has never used one before. I predict that Alex will be sent out to his mission and get him self into a bad situation, but come through at the end.

Torment

Torment takes place in sunny California. Luce transfers from Sword & Cross to a new school called Shoreline. The only problem is that her parents, who are back in Georgia, don't know that she's there. Luce can't tell her parents because she just found out some news that will change her life forever. Luce finds out that the boy, Daniel, who she fell very in love with just by looking at him is actually an Angel who fell in love with Luce centuries ago and has now cursed him and Luce to lives filled of heart break and sorrow. Since Daniel has fallen in love with a mortal he was removed from his respectably high place in Heaven and has fallen with the rest of the angles who wish not to follow the rules in Heaven. The only thing is that after the fall, angels are still free to choose if they want to be good or bad and Daniel chooses the good side.

Even though Daniel is still on the good side he still has a curse on his shoulders. The curse is that every seventeen years him and Luce meet and fall in love with each other but after they have their first kiss Luce miraculously burst up into flames and dies leaving Daniel there all alone to mourn for her. After that happens he has to wait another seventeen years until him and Luce meet again only Luce will have been reincarnated as a different girl, living in a different environment, with a different family and even a different culture speaking a different language. But yet, somehow, Daniel and Luce always find each other.

When Luce shows up at Shoreline she thinks that it is the most beautiful thing that she's ever seen. She is also amazed at how laid back every body is and that most  of her classes are outside in the sun and that there is a shocking truth  to shoreline that some of the students there are Nephlium which are basically angels in training. Some of the students are immortals and the others are hybrids, half mortal half immortal, with watered down powers. Her roommate, Shelby, is a hybrid and is at first mean to Luce because she has never had to share anything with anyone since she is an only child, but she soon learns to love Luce and they soon become friends.

Luce then figures out that the shadows that have been haunting her ever since she was seven are actually called the Announcers and that she is able to travel back in time through the Announcers to get glimpses of her past lives. Every time she wants to summon an Announcer she goes into the woods behind Shoreline and tries to glimpse her past lives. The first time she failed, but the second time she was successful with the help of her two friends, Shelby and Miles, who likes Luce and has shown her that more than once. When Luce finally knows how to travel back in time through the Announcers she is determined to find out what had happened, exactly, when Daniel first fell in love with her and, if so, how can she break this curse and live a happy, non confusing, normal life.

In the end Luce travels back in time, alone, to find out more about her past selves and possibly break the cruse that Daniel conflicted upon her and him. Daniel tries to stop her because it isn't safe for her, since her parents aren't very religious she never got baptized. Therefor, if she dies in this lifetime it will be for good

Smoke by Ellen Hopkins

Smoke is the second half of the story of Pattyn von Stratten, who after taking years of physical abuse from her father was driven to kill him, mostly to save her little sisters from the same childhood she had. In this book, she is on the run, so far successfully, and has been staying with a Hispanic family after doing their daughter, Adriana, a favor upon meeting her in a city bus when she discreetly told her about a thief who had pickpocketed her wallet. The family is trying to help her get a job on a ranch near where they live in southern California, under the alias of Patty Medina, Adriana's last name.

Throughout the story, she writes in her diary about her thoughts about what she did, as well as what lies ahead. She regrets killing her father, but knows that going back home to where everyone she knows resents her would only make things worse. Based on her relationship with Adriana's family, it seems like Pattyn might just find a new life at the ranch, or with the Medinas. She might also have to eventually deal with police, too, if they ever manage to track her down.

If I Stay

If I Stay is about a girl named Mia in modern times. Mia and her family were in a car accident and only two members of here family were left alive: her and her brother, Teddy. Because Mia was conscious but not awake, she was rushed to the hospital near by and then Mercy-Flighted to another hospital. Currently, the setting is the hospital.

Mia is a ghost traveling around the hospital while her body is in the ICU. Mia watches her extended family come and go form the waiting room as she is contemplating letting herself wake up or letting herself slip away. During the operation, a nurse told her that it was up to her if she lived or died. How could she stay without her parents? How could she leave Adam?

The hospital is in Portland and it is a huge building. Mia is starting to get used the hospital because she knows how to navigate around each hallway. In the book it says," When they finally find an unlocked one, they sneak inside. They fumble around in the dark for a light switch. I hate to break it to them, but it's actually back out it the hall." This shows how she knows the building more a than Adam and Kim because she is able to recognize where the light switch is based on what room they are in.

In the next few chapters of If I Stay,  I think that Adam will finally find out a way to get into the ICU. He had been trying to find a way in for a while. I also think that in the near future she will find out what happened to Teddy. They were split apart when she was taken to the hospital in Portland. Eventually, I think that she will end up choosing whether she is going to live or die. I can not wait to see what happens next!

A Storm of Swords

The book is set in the fantasy land of Westeros and the time mimics the medieval period. Westeros is a harsh world, frozen cold in the north near the wall, and in the south it has crowded and disgusting cities. The phrase "You'll smell the city long before you see it." was used to describe the capital of Westeros kings landing. The character Arya Stark does not fit in in this world at all. Even at the beginning of the story she was seen as different, because of her interest in things seen only for boys and her distaste for more feminine things. This is especially obvious as her sister, Sansa is the opposite. Currently in the story she is on the run from the kings knights after her father was beheaded as a traitor. Arya never really has things go her way. As far as she knows she has no surviving family and her life is constantly in danger. At the end of the novel she had boarded a ship to a smaller kingdom across the sea called Bravvos. My prediction is that she will begin to training to fight there because throughout the book they had said the Bravvosi were proficient in sword fighting, which was what Arya was learning to do at the beginning of the book series.

The Fault in Our Stars (finished)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (finished)

This book takes place in a suburb of Indianapolis around present time. Main character, Hazel, lives in a world revolving around sickness and sympathy with support groups and many other sick teenagers in the area. Hazel tries to keep her distance from others because she doesn't want to hurt anyone if complications with her cancer occur. All around her she sees and hears of devastating happenings with disease and doesn't want anyone to have to deal with the tragedies. Although Hazel is one of the many diagnosed with cancer, she feels that she is alone in the battle of disease, like she always gets the short end of the stick, or like the universe is against her. Toward the end of the book, Hazel's lover Augustus Waters passes away do to cancer. The one person she let into her life was lost. She makes a comment on one of Augustus's social media sites saying that, in fact, he did not die after a lengthy battle with cancer, but of a lengthy battle with human consciousness... Like awareness by the mind of itself and the world around it was lacked.

After the death of Augustus and depression of Hazel, she comes to realize that her closeness with Augustus was the best thing that has ever happened to her. She wants to have closer relationships with others to uplift her and their spirits, no longer secluding herself from others because of fear and sickness. I believe that Hazel will move on in her life, but deeply miss Augustus and never forget their epic love story.

The Maze Runner

I've only just started this book and the setting you are given is very strange. Thomas, the main character finds himself among a total group of strangers in a place called the Glade. The first thing Thomas sees, after double doors of a metal box he was trapped in opens, is a large square field totally surrounded on all four sides by walls hundreds of feet tall.  he later observes a few trees, gardens and some raggedy buildings. Then he starts smelling things such as freshly turned dirt.  He later hears a scream of agony and goes to investigate.  So other than the fact that this place is called the Glade you don't know when or where exactly they are because everyone has had their memory erased. In this new community he is waiting to be assigned a role but for now he is totally confused about everything. Though it is only the beginning of the book I predict, because of what seems to be a strong sense of curiosity he has, he will be a helpful factor in finding out how they all ended up in the glades.

The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

The Longest Ride is set in the present day when a man, too old to be driving, runs off the road in a bad snow storm and is having flash backs of when he first meet his wife.  In Ira's flash backs they are set in February of 1939. The day he first saw his wife.  Ruth and her family had immigrated to North Carolina from Vienna, where they fled from Hitler.  Her family had came into Ira's parents store seeking help from his mother. Ira's mom spoke German and Ruth and her family were terribly homesick and needed someone to talk to. "we were so homesick, so hungry to meet someone from home." (pg. 11)  Ruth probably felt very out of place.  Coming to a new country fleeing from someone who wanted to hurt her and her family, knowing very little of that language and starting a whole new life, must have been very hard considering she was sixteen years old.  I predict that eventually someone will find Ira's car and take him to the hospital hopefully in time.

My Life Next Door

This book takes place in Samantha and Jase's neighborhood.  They are next door neighbors and spend time split between both houses (of course only at Samantha's house when her mother isn't home).  This takes place in the present time during the summer.  I know that it is summertime because they spend a lot of their time at the community pool.  Samantha also has a job there as a life guard.  In Samantha's free time she also loves to take Jase's siblings to the pool to give his mom a break.  Jase's mom is pretty busy taking care of all 6 children, sometimes it is good to have them off of her hands.

Samantha is sort of living a secret life next door.  Her mother has no clue that she talks to The Garrett family or even that she might like the boy next door.  She is busy with work and Samantha does a great job at hiding it without making herself seem suspicious.  Jase has no idea why Samantha hasn't introduced him to her mother but he isn't complaining.  She feels that she fits in more with the Garrett family than she does her own.  She feels like an outcast at home.  With her mothers new boyfriend, he changes the way her home has always felt (Ex. taking food off of Samantha's plate without asking).  Since her mother leaves so early in the morning and comes home so late Samantha has decided to spend most of her free time with Jase at The Garrett's house.  She realizes what a family should look like in comparison to her "family".  With no dad, a sister in college and a mom who works all the time, Samantha is happy that she found a group of people who are similar to her and accept her for who she is.  Not just her mother leaving notes to clean the family room because she was too busy last night to do it, but a real family who has fun with her.

I predict that the next step in this story would be to introduce Jase to Samantha's mom.  I do not think Samantha will willingly do such a thing, but rather an accidental incounter will happen.  I am scared how Samantha's mother will react to her new life, but I am interested in seeing what Samantha will do in response to her mothers reaction.

When the Game Stands Tall

In when the game stands tall, the School De La Salle is in the end of their  off season/start of their 2002 season.  De La Salle is located in Southern California and holds the longest winning streak in High School Football, 151 wins.  Their coach Bob Ladouceur is considered the greatest High School Football coach of all time.
Ladouceur lives in a media crazy world. I love when the book talks about Ladouceur talking to the media at press conferences because whenever they ask, "How is your team doing?" or "How is the team looking this year?"  He always responds with, "We're doing alright." or "We aren't doing to well." or "The teams looking okay, nothing special."  Which is funny and ironic because these meetings are usually the night before a game and after he says these comments, his team goes out and completely dominates the competition.  Ladouceur does not fit into his job in my opinion.  He is not the aggressive, harsh, football brilliant, tough coach that typically is behind all great teams.  Bob is a soft, yet well spoken, motivational speaker in the locker room, and at meetings.  He is pushy, but not aggressive and hard on his players.  He doesn't like to fire up his team or give them advice before a game, he loves to look for the leadership in his players and to see them fire each other up.  Bob is usually a lucky man when it came to getting the head coaching job and getting the commitment and faith from his players.  I think Ladouceur will lead his team to greatness and more repeated undefeated seasons/state championships.  I also think his new starting QB that is shy and thinks he is "unproven" will turn out an amazing player, and the incredible leader that Ladouceur is looking for.

Pieces by Chris Lynch

In the book Pieces by Chris Lynch, the setting is in the present time. The world he lives in, he is always in the hospital or at home remembering his brother. He likes to visit the cemetery even though his brother's body parts aren't there. "I always had a thing for the cemetery, always, long before I knew anybody there personally." (pg 37) Eric is stuck in a world where he misses his brother and is eager to find his organs. Eric is so caught up with his brother that he isn't focusing on his own life. I predict that after he got to meet the people with his brothers organs that he will not keep in touch and will move on.

Dragonball Z

In Dragonball Z there are tons of places that deal with setting. In the book now the area where the battle with the androids and cell are on earth, but Dragonball Z doesn't use real places, they are fake places like the capitol city, north city, south, east, and west city. Currently Trunks is trying to fight off cell, who has reached his perfect form, on a small island not to far from south city. The island is a pretty grass like island with tiny hills and small mountains on it with big trees for hiding, which the androids were using to hide from cell, and is also very damaged at the same time from the battling. Later on there is another place that is a big part of the which is a desert area with high mountains and heavy winds that cell named "The Cell Games Arena" which is a tournament he set up to battle the "Z Fighters" in the next volume.

Omaha

Eleanor moves into a new town, Omaha. The setting in a way kind of enhances the plot of the story (only by a little though). This dead end town is what makes this relationship between Eleanor and park even more exciting.
At home, Eleanor isn't very happy and not at school either. In her household her mother's boyfriend, and the way her mom favorites him, is the reason why she hates it there. And in school she's the freaky new girl that has no friends. The fact that the bus ride to and from school is the only place that she's at least somewhat content is pretty sad. Also considering that park, the weird Asian kid that she sits with, doesn't even say a word to her. She just reads his comics over his shoulder and they silently bond over this. But every bus ride their mute connection grows stronger and stronger until a friendship forms. The route of a good relationship.
Eleanor hating her home and school is what makes these bus rides with park even more exciting for her. In conclusion of this, the settings in this book make the little things in the characters lives more interesting.

5, 6, 7, Nate

This is the life Nate is living. The life in the city. Nate is in the Broadway musical E.T. The book takes place very modern so it could be either 2012-2014. It doesn't specify. Nate lives with his aunt Heidi since his family couldn't afford to come live in the city with him. He lives in a very noisy, busy, and HUGE city. The book takes place obviously in NYC but specifically in the theatre district in Manhattan. Nate fits in very well with his environment. He's always dreamed of being a Broadway star and that is finally coming true. He doesn't really care that much about how much he's payed, just as long as he is and that he's performing. Nate used to stick out like a sore thumb at his old school because he was the only boy who liked Broadway. His friend, Libby, also enjoys Broadway but because she's a girl, she didn't stick out as much as Nate. he was always bullied because of it as well. But ever since he moved to NYC, no one has really noticed any differences, even though most peoples noses are in their phones and don't give a crap who's walking next or behind them. A scene that perfectly proves this is when he just arrives to NYC and he doesn't start rehearsals for 2 more days. On the day before rehearsals started, Nate went sight seeing with his aunt. When he was trying to get on the subway, everyone had either headphones in, was talking on the phone, or was texting/playing a game on their phone. He kept getting knocked into and no one cared who he was or why he was there. On the subway, when he was about to sit down, someone snuck behind him and took the chair. He sat right on him on accident. The man in the chair kind of got mad but got over it. Inferring that the previews are in 2 days and the amount they are prepared, the show can either go really well or really well. I personally hope it goes well because if it does, Nate will be able to play E.T. more often. He is a swing (Person that goes in when regular person and understudy are unable to do the part). He still goes on every performance but only as Alien #7. The 3rd book in the series comes out in January and I don't know what to expect but I am very excited for it! I am hoping to be done with this book by next Wed.
Book I'm reading now!

If I stay

In this book, If I stay, their is a lot to do with setting. Their are many details that need to be said about the surroundings of the characters. The setting when the car crash is in place is very important. "The road has some patches of snow, but mostly just wet." The wet roads and sixty miles an hour plow that was plowing straight in to the passengers side had caused the car to eviscerated. At this point, Mia has no idea where her family is. She doesn't know anything, she assuming everyone got throw from the car just like her. "The pavement grows slick and there are gray chunks of what look like cauliflower." She says this as shes trying to find the rest of her family, she then realizes after the docter's get there that her mom is being wrapped in a plastic bag and her dad is getting a sheet covered over him. The author makes sure their is a lot of detail that goes in to setting.

If I Stay

The main scene is currently in the hospital where Mia is being treated. Although the setting gets flipped around due to her talking about her past,  the events taking place right now are in a hospital in Portland. The time is present and the scenes are going on at different times in the day. It is wintertime where they are right now. I would describe the hospital as smelling like latex and depression, because of the obvious reason that the doctors are wearing sanitary gloves, but I when I smell depression I think of the scent of medication which could lead to thoughts of death. I feel stiffness and awkwardness. Stiffness is more of a physical feeling in the sense that laying in a hospital bed is very rigid and uncomfortable. It feels awkward on more of a social and emotional level because people wouldn't know what to say to one another or how to think of the given situation. I hear nervousness and anxiety because the doctors and nurses are rushing in circles trying to account for everyone who needs medical attention and assuring that things are running smoothly. The anxious half of it is more from the people in the waiting area, desperately waiting to hear if their loved ones will be okay. Mia is starting to get a feel for what is going on since she has been here for about a day now. She is getting to know some of the nurses and is becoming more familiar with the fact that her spirit is currently separate from her physical body. It seems as though Mia feels like she is behind a wall because she just wants to tell people she is there and wants to know what is going on. When Mia was being lifted up in the helicopter, she was thinking, "It's 10:37. I wonder what's happening back down on the ground. Has Willow figured out who the emergency is? Has anyone phoned my grandparents?... I wonder about Kim." (26) In this specific section, Mia is just wondering what state she is in and what is happening to her relatives and friends. Based on what I have read and what I can infer from the given information, I predict that after a few more days or weeks of treatment, Mia will wake up to see the world again. I have decided this because even though her parents and possibly Teddy are gone, she would want to live for them and also to see Adam, since she hasn't seen him yet and feels bad for missing his band's performance. In the details to come, I will find out what Mia decides after all.

Bitter Melon by Cara Chow

Bitter Melon, by Cara Chow, is a novel whose setting is in San Francisco, California, 1989. The main character is Frances Ching. She lives in a small, dingy apartment with her mother. Frances attends an elite all-girls private high school called St. Elizabeths.

Her mother is a bank teller, and works long hours to pay for Frances' education. Frances' mother is very strict and has many high expectations for her. Her mother wants her to get into UC Berkeley for college and attend medical school, so she can become a doctor. Frances' mother wants her to become a doctor so she does not have to work long, hard hours. "'That way, you can get into medical school and become a doctor. You will make lots of money and buy us a nice house so I can quit my job...with your medical skills, you can even cure the illness I have now. You can only accomplish this if you are focused. No distractions.'"(Page 12)

When Frances starts her senior year in high school, she finds out that her schedule says "Speech" for one class when it should say "Calculus", which is the class that her mother wants her to take. Frances realizes that she loves writing and taking speech. She feels that her speech class is where she belongs and fits in. "I promise myself that I will see Ms. Costello on the very last day to change classes. Unfortunately, I find out that I got the deadline wrong--one day too late." (Page 33)

Frances decides to not tell her mom and try to keep this secret from her, forgetting that her mother will eventually find out she is not taking calculus, when she should be. I think that Frances' mother will find out that she is taking speech behind her back, and that she is lying to her.

The Angel Experiment
The Angel Experiment is a novel set in a place and time yet unknown. It is not known yet because The group is constantly moving from city to city. The Flock is being hunted down by Erasers(Mutant Killers) sent to bring them back to the school. Max is the leader of the flock and she has nearly endangered the group by doing a heroic act and stopping to save a little girl's life. Max was flying with the group when she saw a little girl being bullied by a bunch of older kids. Max at that very moment stopped to help her. Max plays an important role in this book because she is the leader and the inspiration of the group. Many scenes of the book would not fit in to the story if it were not for max's actions.

Leap Day

This book is set in Orlando in the present day. The whole story takes place on leap day, Josie’s birthday. Josie lives a life that is mostly like my own, but there are a few differences. Josie lives close to Disney World so most teenagers get their jobs there instead of in clothing stores or supermarkets. Also, in Josie’s school, the students misbehave more than the students at our school, and they don’t always get caught. Of course, another big difference is that Josie was born on leap day and sometimes gets extra attention because of it.  Josie fits into this situation because she likes when people pay attention to her.  In the beginning of the book, her teacher wants her to tell the class why it’s only her fourth birthday. While some people would be uncomfortable talking in front of the entire class, Josie actually enjoys it. She even asked if she could go up to the front of the room to talk and was disappointed when the teacher said she should just stay in her seat.  If I had to guess what would happen next, I would say that someone might get in trouble. I would say this because Josie’s best friend is keeping a secret from her. After the girls tried to steal ice cream from the cafeteria, then realized that someone had already beat them to it, I was afraid something bad would happen. I realized how much they could get away with in their school and I’m afraid they might get themselves into big trouble.

if i stay

In the book if I stay by Gayle Forman Mia is in the hospital with none of her family members her father is already dead and does not know anything on her mother and bother.  Cousins, aunts ,and uncles are coming and going visiting her. The most important person that she wants there is taking forever getting to the hospital. Adam. Adam is taking forever to get to the hospital and Mia is getting worried. since the accident she has many broken bones and a collapsed lung. she is in bad condition.
I think it is so cool how her ghost can hear and see every thing that is going on.  The hospital was not the one in her home town. It was a " small local place that's looks more like an old-aged home then a medical center" (pg 27). If I was in Mia's spot I would be very worried. I don't know if I would stay or go yet. I think that Mia is going to stay. She still has her boyfriend her and she doesn't know if
her mother and brother are dead or alive but I think she will stay.

The Boys of Winter

In 1980 the Olympic hockey team from the United States coached by Herb Brooks, played  the only undefeated Olympic team, the Soviets (Russians), in Lake Placid. Mark Johnson had hopped over the boards at a late line change, late in the first period. When he got to the cold and smooth ice Johnson had gotten a shot (Pass) from Christian, and Johnson skated hard and fast, with his edges cracking and leaving marks in the ice with every stride, he had gotten the puck. But when he got he remembered what coached always said, " skate until the horn goes off." ,so that is what he did, Johnson was one on one with the Soviet goalie Vladilav Tretiak, Tretiak  was the best goalie in the world, Johnson was deking the goalie and then he had the open net he shot Tretiak tried to get a piece of it, but the puck had already been put in the net. The crowd erupted but the clock showed zero. But the ref said U.S. goal 19:59, and they had scored the goal. Then the second period would begin, but until then, team U.S.A., would go into the locker-room, sweat dripping down their faces and leaving the stench from their hard-work in the dank locker-room. There Herb will talk and tell them what they need to do in order to the semi-final game to go on for gold.
I think after the Olympics and after they win the gold medal by getting through the Soviets and winning against Finland, that the boys will go their separate ways some going to the NHL and some in the AHL. but either way the boys will find a way to remember what Herb says  "go until the horn goes off.", even with a different coach. The boys on the team of the 1980, will never forget each other and the coach Herb Brooks.

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. You have to go to the games could you imagine trying to survive all alone in the the woods and the wild? Every Day

This book is a little different because he changes bodies each chapter. But, in the first chapter, he, Justin, is in his room. His room is very messy; clothes everywhere, many video games, and barely any books. The alarm goes off seven minutes after awakes from his sleep. He switches from bodies from day to day; so he never stays in the same setting. "I am a drifter, and as lonely as that can be, it is also remarkably freeing"(Pg. 7). Sometimes he likes drifting from body to body and sometimes he doesn't. He never is in the same body more than once. He usually likes switching bodies except for when he is in a body where the person is a smoker or a "pothead". But he ends up going to school and meeting Justin's girlfriend. I think he is gonna marry Justin's girlfriend (the girl he likes) Rhiannon because in the 5th chapter he goes back and visits her while in a different body.

Death Note By Zack VanDame-Mancine

This setting takes place in modern day Japan. There are 2 worlds in this story the Human world and the world of Shinigami. Light Yagami/Kira is a bored Genius who picks up the Death Note, Which would kill anybody who's name is written in this note book. Later in that chapter Light meets Ryuk, who was the one that dropped the Death Note. Since Ryuk is a Shinigami, Light is the only one who can see him because he touched the Death Note. That same day, Light decided to use that book for Good and Evil. Since Light is killing people for Good and Evil, The PDJ (Police Department of Japan) is trying to figure out who is killing all the people and the PDJ agents. I think what will happen in the next 9 books is, that Light will soon kill his dad who is the Main Man in the PDJ.

Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince

This Book is set in Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. Harry Potter lives in the school and he has his own bunk, it is sort of like a college for wizards and he is always socializing with Hermione and Ron and Severus Snape Hates Harry Potter because of what Harrys Father James Potter did to Snape. Since Harry's mother was a muggle he sometimes gets made fun of by Lucius Malfoy and also because he is the "Boy who lived" people treat him very differently. Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore are friends and they talk constantly and When Severus Snape killed Professor Dumbledore. I think Harry Potter will recover from Dumbledores Death but I am not 100% positive.

Deadline

This book takes place in present day. Ben Wolf is a 18 year old high school student with leukemia. He goes to a suburban school. But he has a troubled house hold. "Mom flushed her medication down the toilet and on the twenty-fourth downed close to a fifth of Jim Bean whiskey and turned Christmas eve into Halloween." I chose this quote because it shows that he has a troubled house hold because of his mother. He doesn't have a stable home life and on top of that he has ton learn how to deal with the fact that he has leukemia. In the end I think that  him and his family will get better and it wont be as hard.
This book takes place in the late 1970's in Los Angeles California. Which two brothers who do crazy stuff take drugs and smoke behind their parents backs and get tattoos with their friends which only they know about. One of the main characters brothers were killed by a mysterious man and the mother and older brother are having trouble finding the killer but end up finding out who the killer is. At the end of the book i think the two brothers are going to get caught smoking, drinking, and getting their tattoos by their parents. Also their parents are not supportive to their children and want to keep them out of the house and not to return.
