This book is set in Orlando in the present day. The whole
story takes place on leap day, Josie’s birthday. Josie lives a life that is
mostly like my own, but there are a few differences. Josie lives close to
Disney World so most teenagers get their jobs there instead of in clothing
stores or supermarkets. Also, in Josie’s school, the students misbehave more
than the students at our school, and they don’t always get caught. Of course,
another big difference is that Josie was born on leap day and sometimes gets
extra attention because of it. Josie
fits into this situation because she likes when people pay attention to her. In the beginning of the book, her teacher
wants her to tell the class why it’s only her fourth birthday. While some
people would be uncomfortable talking in front of the entire class, Josie
actually enjoys it. She even asked if she could go up to the front of the room
to talk and was disappointed when the teacher said she should just stay in her
seat. If I had to guess what would
happen next, I would say that someone might get in trouble. I would say this
because Josie’s best friend is keeping a secret from her. After the girls tried
to steal ice cream from the cafeteria, then realized that someone had already
beat them to it, I was afraid something bad would happen. I realized how much
they could get away with in their school and I’m afraid they might get
themselves into big trouble.
