The Boys of Winter

In 1980 the Olympic hockey team from the United States coached by Herb Brooks, played  the only undefeated Olympic team, the Soviets (Russians), in Lake Placid. Mark Johnson had hopped over the boards at a late line change, late in the first period. When he got to the cold and smooth ice Johnson had gotten a shot (Pass) from Christian, and Johnson skated hard and fast, with his edges cracking and leaving marks in the ice with every stride, he had gotten the puck. But when he got he remembered what coached always said, " skate until the horn goes off." ,so that is what he did, Johnson was one on one with the Soviet goalie Vladilav Tretiak, Tretiak  was the best goalie in the world, Johnson was deking the goalie and then he had the open net he shot Tretiak tried to get a piece of it, but the puck had already been put in the net. The crowd erupted but the clock showed zero. But the ref said U.S. goal 19:59, and they had scored the goal. Then the second period would begin, but until then, team U.S.A., would go into the locker-room, sweat dripping down their faces and leaving the stench from their hard-work in the dank locker-room. There Herb will talk and tell them what they need to do in order to the semi-final game to go on for gold.
I think after the Olympics and after they win the gold medal by getting through the Soviets and winning against Finland, that the boys will go their separate ways some going to the NHL and some in the AHL. but either way the boys will find a way to remember what Herb says  "go until the horn goes off.", even with a different coach. The boys on the team of the 1980, will never forget each other and the coach Herb Brooks.
