Best Book of 2014

The best book I read of 2014 was Brotherband Slaves of Socorro.  I decided to write about this book because it crossed over to one of my favorite series The Ranger's Apprentice.

The book's plot follows the past books in the series, that follows Hal and his crew on a redemption mission, but introduces a new story line.  The new plot is about a old bully who turns bitter rival. This new rivalry sparks when the main character's bully, Tursgud, becomes a slave trader.  The conflict is that Turgud is raiding and kidnapping his slaves from Araluen, a ally of Hal's country.

The thing I liked most about this book is that it crossed over into its companion series and even crossed over one of the companion series' main characters, Gilan.

The part of the book that i will remember is the scene where Gilan steps out of the shadows of the forest and into the light of coast for the first time to introduce him self like so many other Rangers from the other series have in the past.
