The best book of 2014 that I read this school year, I would say, is The Undertakers by Ty Drago. I chose this book for the content and descriptive detail it had. It's very interesting and follows a very different plot coping with the undead and the normal. A young teen named William Karl Ritter who lives a very different life from your average twelve year old boy. It all starts when he discovers that his next door neighbor becomes a zombie. Nobody else but Will can see them until he meets the Undertakers, a squad of teenagers who are the only people that can see the zombies; leaving them as the whole line of defense to stop the undead from invading the whole world. Being the only saviors of the world, tremendous pressure is put onto Will as they make him the Chief of the Undertakers. Not only does he need to make a plan to save his family from the undead, he needs to make a master plan to save the entire world from the invasion. The Undertakers fight and fight and fight but nothing seems to be working. Until, they discover that all zombies have a secret weakness. They take advantage of every opportunity they get and pounce on the invasion stopping it before his family and the world ends, returning it back to normal, as a peaceful and warm home for humanity.
What i liked most about this book was really the descriptive detail of how the zombies looked. Ty Drago really went into detail when describing the utter most disgusting appearances of spine chilling descriptions such as, "...bloody from head to toe, the ragged green neck peeked its rotten, flesh missing head towards us" (Drago, 286).
For years to come I will always remember the plot as it was really unique and different from your normal zombie plot where everyone is dead and only a few survivors make it out alive. In this plot, only the Undertakers can see the undead leaving the rest of the world blinded to the fact they're being invaded. I really recommend this book if your interested in gruesome tales of heroes fighting zombies.
Like the book your entry is very descriptive and interesting. From what i can tell the books plot line seems similar to that of the movie RIPD. From what you have written the book seems very interesting and i may choose to read it in the future. The plot as you describe it seems as if it can go on without becoming boring. I like a lot of description in my books as well so i can really get a feel of how the character look. Great entry Justyn.
ReplyDeleteGreat entry. The book seems very interesting, exciting and sounds like it would really grab me. It sounds very similar to another book I read but The Undertakers seem much better and much more memorable seeing I can't remember the name of the other book I read. I liked premise of the book I read but it was nearly as good as this book sounds. Hope to read it later this year.
ReplyDeleteFrom what you have written this book sounds amazing and fun to read. You really caught my attention when you mentioned that they can see the zombies. You used very good detail and I hope I get to read the book sometime soon. Great job describing the plot and great entry.
