The best book I read in 2014 was A Feast for Crows, which is the last book so far in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. This was my favorite book because of the focus on the characters. The author did a great job at introducing new characters and giving the preexisting characters more development. The book picks up a little while after the red wedding in the previous book where a few major characters were killed. It follows the story lines of a few specific characters rather than all of them, which I liked as some characters which would have otherwise gone overlooked got to have more of a focus. It is hard to explain the plot of the book without giving away spoilers for the previous books, but it was always interesting and went really in depth about the politics and plans of the characters and the land in general. By far my favorite parts of the book were the ones where Dorne and the important people in Dorne were given attention. Dorne is a place in Westeros that hasn't been written about until this book which is why it is so interesting to read about. The character Arianne Martell was the most interesting part about it and they may be my favorite character in the entire series. Arianne is the next in line for the throne of Dorne after her father dies but it looks like her father is trying to prepare her brother to take over instead of her most of her story line so far is her learning to be more diplomatic and make better decisions about how to get what she wants rather than making rash decisions. The part of the book that will stay with me is when Arianne finds out that her father hasn't been trying to take away her claim to the throne of Dorne, but that he has been trying to plan to help the Targaryens take over Westeros. The book delves into the plot and shows everyone's plans and how they interact with each other like a knotted rope.
