Divergent

The book i am reading is Divergent by Veronica Roth.  In this Syfy Fantasy there are five factions. Factions are what they called states or cities.  Each faction had there own way of life and what they believed in.  The five factions are Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite and Dauntless. This book is about a girl named Beatrice and she is in the faction Abnegation.  In Abnegation they believe in selflessness.  She didn't feel like she belonged there because she didn't feel like she had enough selflessness in her like her brother.  When the kids turn sixteen they can choose what faction they want to be in, but first they have to take an aptitude test to see which faction they should belong to.  Beatrice's test showed up inconclusive, which means she is a divergent.  Being divergent means that she has a little bit of every faction in her blood.  When they got to choose which faction they would like to be in, Beatrice chose Dauntless.  When she got to Dauntless they made her change her name because they said that "Beatrice" is not a dauntless name, so she changed it to "Tris.  For initiation they have to learn how to fight and use weapons and just how to be a dauntless.  There are rankings for all of them and their goal is to be one of the top ten so they can be in the Dauntless. If they don't make it they are faction less.  So far, Tris has made it into the second round of initiation.

I chose this book because I watched the movie, and I thought it was really good, so I decided that I wanted to read the entire series. I liked all the action in the movie and all the details that they put into it.  Also my friend recommended this book to me because she said it was a really good book series and thought I would enjoy it.  I also chose this book because it is a lot like the series The Hunger Games and i really enjoyed that series.

The connection that I made with the book Divergent was with the book series The Hunger Games.  I made this connection because I personally think that Tris from Divergent is a lot like Katniss from The Hunger Games.  They both have a lot of courage and have to fight in a "war".  In The Hunger Games Katniss had to fight for her freedom and so did Tris in Divergent. Tris had dot fight for her freedom because she is a divergent and its a very dangerous thing to be.  Katniss had to fight for her freedom because in the first hunger games she won and then in the second book she had to go back into the area where she once fought to fight for her freedom.
